"Maggie's helps people adjust to living with cancer. Its pioneering support programme has been developed for patients, their carers, family and friends. Each centre is located close to an NHS hospital and has been designed carefully and imaginatively to make sure people feel at home." Charity Registration No SC024414
Although we have spoken about taking this trip for many years, it was only in January of this year that it became a reality. We had always just thought that the trip would be a great adventure and an unforgettable experience, however when the planning process began we realised that it was a perfect opportunity to raise funds for charity, and one not to be missed.
We considered a number of different charities and eventually settled on Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres. We visited the centre at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh where we were really impressed by the calm, homely atmosphere, and the sensitive, caring approach of the staff. Maggie’s deals with the emotional and psychological side of living and coping with cancer which, for sufferers and their families, is every bit as important as the medical care. In the words of the founder, Maggie Keswick Jencks: “Above all what matters is not to lose the joy of living in the fear of dying.”
